Minibus Escort: To accompany and assist our members from their door on to the minibus. Escorting frail and disabled members on trips ensuring their safety and comfort. Pushing wheelchairs or supporting people who are unsteady on their feet, or guiding someone who is partially sighted.
Minibus Drivers: All drivers must undergo a training course in accordance with the MIDAS Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme.
Befrienders: This is a valuable and rewarding role for people with good listening skills to visit members in their own homes on a regular basis. To provide companionship, a friendly listening ear, sharing social outings, introduction to local groups and agencies and help to solve problems.
Event Steward: We run various events whereby you would make
people welcome and take responsibility to ensure members are comfortable
at the venue
Fundraiser: We regularly have events
whereby you could be part of a team even for just an hour to help do a
fundraising collection.
Office Support: Helping to answer phone and face to face enquiries
in the office from members of the public.
Induction: To protect our volunteers we have policies and procedures. We will provide you with a handbook to help you in your role.
Training: We offer training that applies to each role. We recently hosted a first aid course by the British Red Cross. Shortly we will run a course which covers manual handling.
Supervision: To gently introduce you to our organisation we give you the opportunity to find out more about the role in which you are interested. We try and make things as flexible as possible.
Expenses: We encourage volunteers to claim expenses
How to get in touch: If you would like to offer your time as a volunteer please contact the Otley Action for Old People office by telephone: 01943 463965
